Vol.6 Study Guide on the Gospel of Christ explains and gives insight

Chapter twelve
THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST EXPLAINS AND GIVES INSIGHT OR UNDERSTANDING ABOUT DIVERSITIES OF OPERATIONS (I.E. WORKING), BUT IT IS THE SAME GOD WHICH WORKETH ALL IN ALL

There are diversities of operations (i.e. working), but it is the same God which worketh all in all:
• Some apostles
• Some prophets
• Some evangelists
• Some pastors and teachers
RF: Ephesians 4:11

Understanding the word “Apostle”
The word apostle means “to send”. Jesus Christ is referred to the apostle because he is the example of the word “apostle” (see Hebrews 3:1)
Christ Jesus called his disciples and chose twelve, and named or ordained them apostles, so that they should be with him and also to send them forth to preach the gospel (see Luke 6:13, Mark 3:14-15, Luke 9:6)
The apostles of Christ became witness of His resurrection (i.e. the resurrection of Christ) Acts 1:15-26 (see vs. 22), 4:33

The work of an apostle
• A preacher (i.e. to do the work of an evangelist)
• A teacher (i.e. to do the work of a teacher)
• Also to do the work of a pastor and prophet
RF: 1 Timothy 2:5-7, 2 Timothy 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 4:1-6, 2 Timothy 3:1-7, 13, 1 Thessalonians 2:7-11 (see vs. 7, 11)

False (i.e. chiefest or super) apostles
• Their work is to preach another Jesus who the apostles of Christ did not preached or for you to receive another Spirit (different from the Holy Spirit) or another gospel, which you have not accepted. You seem to believe these false apostles 2 Corinthians 11:4-5, 13-15 (NLT)
• They also try to please men– cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine of Christ by flattering words or good words or fair speeches and a cloke of covetousness (i.e. to put on a mask to cover up greed) to deceive the hearts of the simple, and they also mind earthly things Galatians 1:10, 1 Thessalonians 2:4-5, Romans 16:17-18, Philippians 3:17-19

Understanding the word “Prophet”
The word prophet means “a messenger that is sent”. Jesus Christ is referred to a prophet because he is the example of the word “prophet” Deuteronomy 18:14-20 , Acts 3:19-26

Questions:
Who spoke through the prophets of old? The Spirit of Christ (i.e. the Holy Spirit) spoke through the prophets of old 1 Peter 1:10-12, 2 peter 1:20-21

Who is speaking in these last days? Christ is the one speaking in these last days Hebrews 1:1-2

What was the message of the prophets of old? The word of the Lord was their message 1 Samuel 3:1, 21, 2 Kings 3:11-12, Jeremiah 1:4-10 (see vs. 4 , 9)

NOTE: The word of the Lord is also the gospel Acts 8:25, 1 Peter 1:25

The work of a prophet
• They stand in the counsel of the LORD (which is also the gospel) to make God’s people to hear God’s word and turned them from their evil ways and doings Jeremiah 23:18, 22
• Also for men’s edification, exhortation and comfort 1 Corinthians 14:3, Acts 15:32
• They can also do the work of a pastor and a teacher Jeremiah 17:15-16, Exodus 24:12

Wrong concept about prophets
• Many people think that; all what prophet do, is to prophesy, see visions etc. And also think that, God only speak to a prophet Joel 2:28-29 (Acts 2:16-18)
• Many people also think that a prophet should know everything about people and also what is happening around 2 Kings 4:27

Is it wrong to inquire from a prophet?
If the prophet has the word of the Lord (i.e. the Gospel) 2 Kings 3:11-12, 1 Kings 22:1-25 (see vs. 5, 16, 19, 24)

False prophets
• Their work is false prophecy or lies, false vision and divination etc. God’s people like it that way Jeremiah 5:31 (NLT), 14:14, 23:16
• Through false prophecy or lies, false dreams etc, to make God's people to forget the name of Lord for the name of Baal and also to steal God’s word from their neighbour Jeremiah 23:25-30 (see vs.27 & 30)
• Also, through false prophecy or lies, false dreams etc, to make God’s people to err Jeremiah 23:13, 31-32
• They also commit adultery, walk in lies and strengthen the hands of evildoers, that none do return from his wickedness. They also prophesy peace to those that despise God, that do walk in the imagination of their heart (i.e. wickedness) Jeremiah 23:14, 17

NOTE: The false prophecy or lies, false vision and divination etc is done in the name of other gods or from their own heart (i.e. presume or presumption) Deuteronomy 13:1-5 (see vs. 2), 18:20, Jeremiah 14:14, 23:16

Understanding the word “Evangelist”
The word Evangelist means “a preacher” sent to preach the gospel. Jesus Christ preached about the kingdom of God, for people to repent and believe the gospel because he is the example of the word “Evangelist” Matthew 4:12-17, Mark 1:14-15

The work of an evangelist
• To preach Christ; the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ Acts 8:5, 12, 21:8

Understanding the word “Pastor”
The word pastor means “shepherd”, one who feed and watch the flock. Jesus Christ is referred to as the good, chief, great and one shepherd because he is the example of the word “pastor” John 10:11 & 16, 1 Peter 5:1-4

The work of a pastor
• To feed the flock (i.e. the sheep) with knowledge and understanding of the scriptures Jeremiah 3:15, Luke 24:25-27 & 44-46, Acts 20:28
• They can also do the work of an evangelist and a teacher 2 Timothy 4:1-5

Pastors should beware of these:
• Not to feed themselves but to feed the flocks (i.e. the sheep)
• Not to make the flocks (i.e. the sheep) to go astray
ETC
RF: Ezekiel 34:1-6 (see vs. 1-2, 8, 10), Jeremiah 23:1-4, 50:6-7, Matthew 9:35-38

Understanding the word “Teacher”
The word teacher means “someone who imparts knowledge with understanding of the word of God through instructions, illustrations, examples etc”. Jesus Christ is referred to a teacher from God because he is the example of the word “teacher” John 3:1-2

The work of a teacher
• To make disciples (i.e. disciples of Christ) of all the nations Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

False Teachers
• To make child of hell through discipleship; turning the grace of God into lasciviousness (i.e. a license for immorality or saying that God’s forgiveness allows us to live immoral lives) and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ Matthew 23:15 (NIV), 2 Peter 2:1, Jude 3-4 (NIV & NLT)

NOTE:
• The apostles and prophets are the foundation layer, planter and wisemasterbuilder (i.e. their foundation is Jesus Christ; they plant the seed Jesus Christ and build God’s people on Christ Jesus) Ephesians 2:20 (GNT), 1 Corinthians 3:6, 9-11
• Pastors and teachers are waterer or builder (i.e. water the seed and build believers on the foundation) Genesis 29:1-3, 7, 1 Corinthians 3:6-17 (PEV)
• They are all (i.e. their purpose); For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (i.e. to equip God’s people for works of service towards the building up of the body of Christ or so that the body of Christ may be built up) Ephesians 4:11-12 (GW, NIV & AMPC)

The effect or result of the work of apostles, prophets, evangelists pastors and teachers
• Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ
• That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive
• Speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love
RF: Ephesians 4:13-16

NOTE:
• They are not be ordained by man or men. It is only God that can ordain them. They are ordained by God for the propagation or spread of the gospel Jeremiah 1:4-5; Mark 3:13-14 (Acts 1:15-26 (see vs. 22); 6:1-7 (8:5, 21:8); 1 Timothy 2:7, Galatians 1:1, 10
• Elders (also known as bishops) are ordained to oversee and feed the flocks (i.e. the sheep) Acts 20:17 & 28-30, 14:21-23, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7 1 Peter 5:1-5
• We should be after the WORK, not the title e.g. apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers.

WHAT IS THE WORK?
The work of God is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ whom God had sent, that is the Gospel John 6:28-29, Matthew 11:1-5 (see vs. 2, 5), Acts 13:2
